Natural Gas futures surged in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity amid bets that a cold snap in the US may boost heating demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest economy. About 49 per cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes. Latest weather forecasts have called for slightly more cold weather in the lower US 48 states in the next two weeks while the US Midwest and the East Coast may experience below-normal temperatures in the beginning of December. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for November 2014 contract closed at Rs. 264.20 per mmBtu, up by 0.49 per cent, after opening at Rs 263, against the previous closing price of Rs 262.90.
