Zinc drops on weak demand outlook

Zinc prices fell by 0.30 per cent on Tuesday at the domestic markets after Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas manufacturing business index fell more-than-expected last month signaling weak sentiment in the region which reduced the demand outlook for the metal. In a report, Dallas Fed said that Dallas Fed Mfg Business Index fell to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of -17.4, from -11.2 in the preceding month. Zinc futures for March 2015 contract, at MCX, were trading at Rs 130.80 per kg, down by 0.30 per cent after opening at Rs. 130.25 against the previous closing price of Rs. 131.20. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 130.25 till the trading. (At 1.14 PM today).
Major refined zinc exporting countries are Canada, Australia and Rep. of Korea, while major refined zinc importing countries are China, USA and Germany.
