Gold weakens on muted demand

Gold futures were down in the domestic market on Monday on muted demand from local jewellers and retailers even as the metal showed some strength overseas.
Traders said tepid demand from local jewellers and retailers at domestic spot market, mainly kept pressure on gold prices but a slightly better trend in global markets capped the fall.
At the MCX, gold futures for February 2018 contract is trading at Rs 28462 per 10 grams, down by 0.25 per cent, after opening at Rs 28535, against a previous close of Rs 28533. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 28455 (at 14:56 hours).
