Crude oil futures closed lower in the domestic market on Friday as news that the Trump administration extended sanctions relief for Iran, as expected, and data showing the first weekly rise in active U.S. oil-drilling rigs squashed bullish sentiment.
Also, the Energy Information Administration will issue on Monday its monthly drilling productivity report, which will include a forecast on February U.S. shale-oil output.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for January 2018 contract closed at Rs 4070 per barrel, down by 0.73 per cent, after opening at Rs 4083, against a previous close of Rs 4100. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 4007.
