Crude oil rises on US rig data

Crude oil futures closed higher in the domestic market on Friday after another small rise in the number of U.S. rigs drilling for crude, but suffered a down week. Oil held on to gains after oil-field services firm Baker Hughes said the number of rigs drilling for U.S. crude rose by one unit to 800 this week. The firm’s weekly data on the number of rigs drilling for oil in the U.S. is seen as a bellwether for activity in the sector. At the MCX, crude oil futures for March 2018 contract closed at Rs 3996 per barrel, up by 0.33 per cent, after opening at Rs 3981, against a previous close of Rs 3983. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 4003.
