Crude oil down on trade war fears

Crude oil futures closed lower in the domestic market on Wednesday dented by fears of an escalating trade battle between the U.S. and China. The decline was trimmed, however, after government data showed an unexpected drop in U.S. crude inventories. China imposed duties on more than 100 U.S. agricultural goods, following through on a promise to retaliate against President Donald Trump’s duties on imports of Chinese steel and aluminum. At the MCX, crude oil futures for April 2018 contract closed at Rs 4112 per barrel, down by 0.36 per cent, after opening at Rs 4119, against a previous close of Rs 4127. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 4043.
