Gold dips on rising US dollar

Gold futures closed lower in the domestic market on Friday as the benchmark U.S. dollar index briefly touched an 11-month peak, weighing on assets pegged to the monetary unit. Also, a rising rate environment tends to be bearish for gold which doesn’t offer a yield. At the MCX, gold futures for August 2018 contract ended at Rs 31010 per 10 grams, down by 1.17 per cent, after opening at Rs 31,393 against a previous close of Rs 31,377. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 30,958.
