Crude oil rises ahead of OPEC meet

Crude oil futures closed higher in the domestic market on Friday ahead of meeting of major oil producers in Algiers over the weekend. A committee made up of representatives of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and some of its outside allies plans to hold a meeting on Sept. 23 in Algiers. The producers had agreed in June to boost production by 1 million barrels a day in an effort to get output nearer to a previously agreed ceiling. At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2018 contract closed at Rs 5134 per barrel, up by 1.40 per cent, after opening at Rs 5073, against a previous close of Rs 5063. It touched an intra-day high of Rs 5195.
