Gold down on strengthening US dollar

Gold futures closed lower in the domestic market on Friday as the dollar, gold’s leading influence of late, strengthened, and as both markets kept tabs on the latest rhetoric out of Washington on tariffs. Gold and the dollar were confined to relatively narrow ranges, and riskier markets sputtered, as financial market participants took in the latest in the continuing trade scuffle between the Trump administration and major trading partners, including China. At the MCX, gold futures for October 2018 contract ended at Rs 30133 per 10 grams, down by 0.12 per cent, after opening at Rs 30,294 against a previous close of Rs 30,170. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 30,110.
