Crude oil gains on declining stockpiles

Crude oil prices rose by 0.78 per cent on Thursday at the domestic markets after US crude stockpiles fell last week while refineries upped operating capacity, signaling a pickup in fuel demand in the world’s biggest oil consumer. US oil stockpiles fell 3.06 million barrels to 382.4 million barrels in the week ended January 2, 2015, the EIA said. Refineries in the US operated at 93.9 per cent of their capacity last week, up 0.5 percentage points from the previous week. At the MCX, crude oil futures for January 2015 contract were trading at Rs. 3,101 per barrel, up by 0.78 per cent, after opening at Rs. 3,102 against the previous closing price of Rs. 3,077. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 3,091 till the trading. (At 12.16 PM today).
